Questions

Q. What kind of balance do you have between touring, cooking and eating?
A.  This is a cultural tour and fortunately a large part of Italian culture is local food and wine. The itinerary is for the traveler who doesn’t want to miss much, and we balance our cooking lessons with exposure to quality food and wines of the region as presented by vintners, restaurants or boutique producers. We also include opportunities to tour important historical and cultural sites, shop, explore, hike and relax.

Q.  What is included in the tour cost?
A.  Your price includes almost all expenses: Lodging, most meals, ground transportation, a selection of wine with lunch and dinner, cooking lessons, scheduled day trips, winery and other tours, entry fees and guides.  We do not include personal incidentals like laundry, phone calls or additional vintage bottles of your choosing.

Q.  Do I have to be a good cook to take one of your tours?
A.  No. Anyone who enjoys food enjoys our trips. Our time in the kitchen or market with the chefs is a wonderful cultural experience. Preparing and eating a several-course Italian meal is about living like a local. And you’ll take home some great recipes to impress family and friends.

Q.  Can you help me with other travel arrangements prior to or after the tour?
A.   We are happy to make recommendations for hotels, tour guides and transportation. We pass along to you our knowledge and experience as you book extensions or arrive prior to our scheduled tours. (New answer).

Q.  What about air fare?
A.  We have found that many travelers prefer to book their own air travel as they have airline preferences, miles to use or plan to extend their itinerary.  If you need assistance booking air travel, please let us know.

Q.  Can I travel with your groups as a single and have a room of my own?
A.  Yes. The cost is generally 10-15 percent above the cost of the tour.

Q.  What kind of restaurants do your tours visit?
A.  We choose restaurants and trattorias that give you memorable and savory experiences with local or regional cuisine. We look for high quality, highly recommended establishments that have a solid reputation for preparation and ambiance.

Q.  What do you do with my payments if I am unable to travel as scheduled?
A.  We will work with you however we can.  Please see our payment and refund policy on our Reservations page.

Q.  I love to cook, but my traveling companion does not. Should we still sign up together?
A.  Absolutely.  The time in the kitchen is as much a cultural experience as it is about learning to cook.  Group members can participate as much or as little as they would like.  Call to discuss how we might accommodate both of you.
